Peter W. Schroeter

About Peter

Peter has practiced law for 30 years, concentrating on mediation services and civil litigation. He mediates more than 100 cases a year involving a wide variety of civil litigation matters, including business, construction, contracts, employment, insurance, personal injury, medical malpractice, probate and real estate. Because of his reputation for fairness and impartiality, he is frequently asked to serve as an arbitrator throughout the State. Peter has reached the highest level of professional excellence in Alternative Dispute Resolution by receiving the Martindale Hubbell's AV Preeminent rating as voted by his peers.  He has also been selected by his peers for Best Lawyers in America in Alternative Dispute Resolution in 2008-2012 and for New England Super Lawyers in Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Over his career Peter has developed considerable experience in business, employment, insurance, personal injury and general civil litigation. He has tried numerous jury and non-jury trials in Maine State and Federal Courts. The verdict he obtained in Searle v. Fleetwood Homes of Pennsylvania and Schiavi Homes was the first of its kind in Maine to award damages for mold related health problems, and the appeal upholding the verdict was the first time that the Maine Supreme Judicial Court had considered the issue of whether medical evidence of mold causing health problems was sufficiently reliable to be acceptable in Court.

In addition to his practice, Peter has taken an active leadership role in a wide range of legal and civic organizations. He served as Chairman of the City of Saco Planning Board and the Southern Maine Fee Arbitration Commission and was the founder and president of Friends of Saco Schools. He is presently on the Board of Directors of Saco Bay Trails and an active volunteer with the Appalachian Mountain Club. An avid outdoorsman, he has been admitted to the AMC Four Thousand Footer Club for climbing all 48 of New Hampshire's peaks over 4,000 feet.
